Art

Art at Woodside

At Woodside, we want our children to enjoy creating pieces of art for a given purpose, and for personal enjoyment and a sense of wellbeing. The great artists are sources of inspiration to our children. Technical skills are developed so that our children can create their own works of art with confidence and flair. In line with the National Curriculum for art, our intent is that all children:

  • produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
  • become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
  • evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
  • know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms

Characteristics of an artist

  • ability to communicate through a variety of media
  • think creatively and independently
  • an avid interest in the great artists and designers throughout time
  • perseverance to develop excellent skills and techniques in sketching, drawing, painting and other art and design techniques

How we teach art at Woodside This has been developed with reflection upon the National Curriculum (2014) and Kapow https://www.kapowprimary.com

Our Nursery and Reception staff work closely with subject teams to ensure our curriculum is carefully planned from Nursery through to Year 6.
