At Woodside, we want our children to develop a love for a wide range of music. We aim for Woodside children to have access to musical instruments as part of the curriculum, as well as singing regularly. We want our children to sing and play with confidence and joy, and to gain a sense of wellbeing from participating in or listening to music.   In line with the National Curriculum for music, our intent is that all children:

• perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians
• learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence
• understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the interrelated dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations

• able to perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions
• confidence and creativity to perform music for a variety of audiences
• ability to fluently read and write musical notation
